Hidden TreasureDon Barnes is a watercolorist who is a long-time resident of the Mt. Vernon area. He is an active member of the Alexandria Torpedo Factory Art League and has successfully participated in numerous juried shows sponsored by the Art League and other area wide competitions. His work entitled "Irresistible Force," a seascape, was selected for inclusion in the Art League's annual and prestigious American Landscape Show and he has been Hidden Treasure awarded bin gallery privileges at the Art League due to his sustained success in juried shows.

His paintings have been previously featured in a one-man show in North Carolina at the Boykin Center's Hammond Gallery sponsored by the Arts Council of Wilson. In addition, he was invited by the Arts Council for a return engagement to participate in their recent celebratory show marking the Boykin Center's 5th anniversary. Don's paintings also reside in numerous private collections throughout North Carolina and Virginia and include previously exhibited and commissioned pieces. His work reflects his fascination with scenes and places he has encountered during travel throughout Greece, Italy, and the United States.

Artist's Statement:

"I am very fortunate to have been given the opportunity later in my life to experience the pleasure and joy of discovery and self-expression through the medium of transparent watercolors. If my paintings can give others pause and insight into the beauty and joy of our world, I will be pleased and thankful. I am very grateful to my wife, Sara, whose support and encouragement are endless."
