Born in 1940 in New Orleans, Ron Picou enjoyed his youth fishing and crabbing in the bayou and marshland areas close to home. While young, he learned to appreciate the great natural beauty of southern Louisiana, an appreciation that has developed into a major theme in his recent work.
Mr. Picou studied fine arts with John McCrady Art School and at Tulane University and then acquired graphic and art experience with several New Orleans firms. Expanding talent and skill led to more outlets of expression, and he began freelancing for printers and ad agencies. He has received many commissions for oil paintings relating to inland waterways and the oil industry. Culminating fourteen years of art directing and designing, Mr. Picou established Royal Arts Studio and began working mainly with oils and screen-printing, media best suited for his ability.
